About Rose ‘Gallica’ – Classic Old Garden Rose
Rose ‘Gallica’ represents one of the oldest groups of cultivated roses, cherished for centuries for its beauty, fragrance, and resilience. The flowers are typically richly coloured in shades of pink, crimson, purple, or magenta and often feature the full, textured forms associated with heritage roses. These roses bloom once in early summer but compensate with an abundance of flowers and remarkable fragrance. Their historic character makes them indispensable in traditional and cottage-style gardens. Gallica roses are also known for their hardiness, adaptability, and ability to thrive with relatively little maintenance.
How to Plant Rose ‘Gallica’?
Plant in a sunny or lightly shaded position with fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Allow spacing of 120–180 cm between plants depending on the variety. Water thoroughly after planting and maintain moderate moisture during establishment. Apply mulch annually to improve soil structure and retain moisture. Prune lightly after flowering, as most gallica roses bloom on older wood.
