Product Description - Planting Onions Red Baron

Planting Onions Red Baron

The Red Baron onion is a late, high-yielding variety of red onion. The growing season from germination to complete lodging of leaves is 120-130 days. Plant height is 30-35 cm. The leaves are dark green with a waxy coating. Bulbs are uniform, rounded. The average weight of the bulbs is 50-120 g. The colour of the bulbs is dark purple, both inside and outside. The pulp is tender, juicy, crispy, without bitterness. Red Baron onion is a dessert variety. It is ideal for salads, fresh consumption, processing and long-term storage. A special feature is that it does not stain other components of the dishes in which it is included. The variety is characterised by an excellent high density of bulbs. The variety produces high yields throughout Ukraine. Red Baron onions are not susceptible to Fusarium, root rot and downy mildew.

  • The plant height is 30-35 cm.
  • The growing season from germination to complete lodging of leaves is 120-130 days.
  • The average weight of the bulbs is 50-120 g.

Seedling onions are sown as early as possible in the spring, as soon as it is possible to go out into the garden. They are planted at a distance of 5-10 cm from each other, the depth of planting in the soil is 3-5 cm, the recommended distance between the rows is 30 cm. After harvesting, the onions are stored in a well-ventilated area at a temperature of 15-20°C. Dried and peeled bulbs should be stored in a dry and dark place at a temperature of 1-3 ° C. At higher temperatures, the onions begin to germinate (especially the onion seedlings). You need to buy a seedling in early spring. Store the purchased seedlings in a cardboard box, in a warm, dry room (not in the kitchen, as it is very humid there, and the bulbs can germinate). Before planting (for a week), warm the seedling in the sun, sprinkle it in a thin layer on a warm windowsill. Harvest the onions in late July or early August. As soon as the neck of the bulb becomes soft and the plant begins to bend. In this phase, the growth of the bulbs is completed. The upper scales of the bulb acquire the colour characteristic of the variety. When 25% of all plants have died, the entire crop is harvested.
