Birnformige onion, Birnformige onion (Allium cepa L. Birnformige, Bamberger birnenförmige Zwiebel). Seedling onions. This is a German variety of high quality onions. Another name: Bamberger. It is extremely popular and reliable. Late ripening period. Like most onions, it belongs to the subfamily Onion. This is an old variety of yellow onion, originally from Franconia (German: Franken), a historical region in southeastern Germany. It is very common in Europe.
Appearance
The onion has a unique oblong shape. Fully ripened bulbs are elongated, pear-shaped, with light brown, strong husks. Their weight is up to 100 g. A medium-thin "neck" with a constantly dried husk makes this variety indispensable on the site. The pulp is white, juicy, with an excellent aroma. The taste is slightly spicy. This oblong onion is sweeter than most other onions. It is very convenient to cut it into beautiful rings. The leaves are dark green in colour. This variety is suitable for the fresh market and processing. It is ideal for pickling as well as cooking. This onion variety is suitable for long-term storage. It is characterised by good resistance to shooting. It is ideal for producing greens. The plant is 40-50 cm tall and 1-10 cm wide.
Birnformige onions are easy to grow. It is an unpretentious crop. It grows in full sun. It requires sandy loamy fertile soils. The variety is intended for planting in March-April, and harvesting is carried out in August-September. Bulbs are planted at a distance of 15-20 cm from each other. The planting depth is about 5 cm.
